Name: Blue Shark
Information: This is one shark species that gets around. The blue shark occurs in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans in both inshore and offshore waters. In the western Atlantic it can be found from Newfoundland and the Gulf of St. Lawrence to Argentina. In Canadian waters the blue shark has been found in southeastern Newfoundland, the Grand Banks, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Scotian Shelf and the Bay of Fundy. Long, sleek and slender it can reach a length of 13 feet and are known to migrate long distances. Dynamic in color with deep indigo on its back, lighter blue on its sides, and white underneath, the blue shark is often seen at the surface when the seas are calm.
