Name: Giant Kelp
Information: Kelp has a root-like structure called a holdfast that wraps around the sea floor, especially rocky surfaces, to anchor the growing alga. Kelp fronds (a large leaf divided into many thin sections) grow straight up to the surface, where they spread across the top of the water to form a dense canopy. Large plants can have more than 100 fronds. As kelp grows, a blade at the tip of each frond separates, producing a series of tiny new blades.
